My goal was to secure a hands-free method to magnify circuit boards I work on as a hobby. I was considering eye loop type magnifiers but found them to be difficult to use and adjust on-the-fly. I’ve used magnifying lamps in the past but that was prior to the age of the LED lamp. This lamp checked all the boxes in terms of my budget and a magnification power of 15X. At the same time, I was a bit skeptical because higher magnification usually means little to no depth of field and a restricted field of view. The slightest movement will cause the entire area you wish to focus on to disappear.All my concerns vanished once I set up the lamp and started to use it. The field of view is almost the full width of the 4.2-inch lens and the depth of field is good enough to see detail below and above the plain of focus. The lamp is mounted on an adjustable and sturdy cantilever arm and is powered by a USB cable. In addition to a good depth of field and field of view, the LED lamp features dimming and a wide color temperature pallet. I couldn’t ask for more.
