Vintage KNOLL – Brazilwood Cello Bow Model #51 circa 1970

click picture to enlarge Stamped: KNOLL This Knoll workshop bow was made around 1970 in Regnitzlosau, Germany in the workshop that was founded by Alfred Knoll in 1932. The shop is very close to the Czech border and 25 miles from the famous violin making town of Markneukirchen, Germany. The Knoll workshop produces many levels of bows for students, advancing players, and professionals. The workshop is still in operation today under the ownership of Alfred’s grandson, Gerald Knoll. Mr. Judd collected all kinds of string instruments and bows in the mid 1970’s and all through the 1980’s. This bow is about 50 years old and made it into his collection of hundreds of items discovered in the New York City/New Jersey area. The model #51 bow is a Brazilwood specie, nickel mount, fully-lined round section bow stamped “KNOLL “ The wood is wonderfully dark and has the original leather winding with an extra leather layer for the thumb grip. The frog displays single mother-of-pearl eyes, and it has a two-piece endscrew which is indicative of the model #51. The bow has been fully gone over here in our workshop and is in very good condition. The stick will make a great bow for the player who is looking to get into an entry level wood cello bow. Weight fully haired 83.6 grams.
